Back in the day, the northwest corner of Costa Rica was a part of Nicaragua. Now, the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica has a slightly different personality than the rest of the country. The Big Island is the largest of the Hawaiian islands at 4,028 square miles, which is more than all the other Hawaiian islands combined. The island is 92 miles long and 76 miles wide and represents almost 63% of the state’s total landmass, However, it has only 13% of Hawaiʻi’s population.
